Welcome to Thurgood Marshall Academy 2008/2009 school semester........

The mission of the TMA Institute is to provide the highest quality educational and social opportunities for students through programs designed to meet their abilities and needs.

Welcome! Every student who enters our classroom has the right to learn just as every teacher has the right to teach in an environment that is safe, suitable to learning, and free from any distractions. In order to maintain these rights, everyone should be aware of the responsibilities and expectations designed to help you continue to be hard working and dedicated students. By getting to know each student, I will help you discover your full potential by providing a rigorous curriculum of the Math Standards.

Course Description:
8th grade mathematics is a year-long course that prepares students to enter the study of Algebra I (a high school credited course). The focus of the course is building the foundation necessary for success in the study of algebra. Students will become familiar with the following: the properties of mathematics; the language of algebra; solving one step and two step equations; adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing rational numbers and integers; solving inequalities; graphing equations and inequalities; proportion; percent; statistics and graphs; probability; applying algebra to geometry; measurement; introduction to trigonometry; and the study of polynomials.

No one has the right to interfere with someone else's learning.
